child eating a strawberryFollowing the Annual Report conducted by Dr. Rosemary Geller (Medical Officer Of Health) which was featured in the J.E.P last year, I was shocked to read that “1 in 8 of Jersey 5 Year olds’ are considered Obese, and nearly ¼ are overweight.)

As a parent myself, I found these statistics particularly concerning, and felt they needed to be addressed immediately.

It was when I contacted my local Politician regarding my concerns that he suggested I set up a campaign group aiming to heighten
awareness of healthy food within our islands’ schools.

Deputy Geoff Southern was to my knowledge already an avid campaigner
in the battle to save our school milk, and when we put our issues together, along with the
subject of secondary school vending machienes, we had formed the foundations of a nutrition related campaign focused on school children.

We held our first public meeting in Oct 2006 at St. Paul’s Community
Centre in St. Helier. At this meeting I met parents who had passionate views on childhood nutrition, and this has given me the strength to bring the campaign to a wider global audience by putting this website dedicated to it, online.

My first priority has been to form a friendly support network of Jersey parents and their children, offering and exchanging advice, and to campaign on topical nutritional issues.
